This is a beautiful digital painting. It reminds me a bit of some of the folk art that I saw when I was in Ecuador, because of your strong use of color.

...and then you have images like this. Much cleaner forms---your painting an animal with very sharp features (its beak, its eyes, its contained head and torso, etc). You bring out each shape with very vivid hues: Your reds and yellows are saturated and powerful. The blues in their eyes are almost like they were made of glass or some jewel, and you put them in the painting by hand. The white and black sections of their feathers are also boldly delineated; with strong white streaks throughout the black. And you even put blues in some of their talons.

They're positioned with a dramatic sweep down, from the top toucan to the bottom. And the bottom one stands at receptive attention. The two create an energy line, from top to bottom. A flow. And the background---a too-light word for it---is the large broad leaves and petals of the tropical world, with the kinds of hues and shapes that magnetized Gaugin. Wonderful broad shapes, love their sweeping strokes, and the big bold mango-like greens and yellows, and pinks on the side, and bright yellow stamens (which look like tentacles). And the bright green leaves on top. They radiate out from the birds, like a big sunburst.

Your painting takes us right into the middle of everything, so there's no sky and no ground: We're in an 'epicenter' of sorts, where this meeting takes place. And the stamens (and other plant-things) that flow down from the upper toucan's beak is like a big radiant beard. Powerful and eye popping work, Carol. When you do pieces like this, you make everything sing.

Thanks so much, Mark. I'm so glad you enjoyed this work. I am truly fascinated with the colors, textures, flowers, and creatures of the tropics. I always have been. Something about the bold colors and textures energizes me. I love the energy so much I've decorated my home in a tropical theme, with parrot and floral art, and bright colors, and lush plants. I have a waterfall in my living room, I even have a large toucan bird sculpture hanging from my ceiling, along with a macaw and other tropical birds. It's a jungle in there and I love it! Toucans have always been one of my favorite tropic birds, and when I see them, with those crazy big beaks and colors, they always make me smile. As you said so eloquently, they make me sing and fill me with inspiration.
