Description

At Aquileia, in Friuli (the most eastern Italian region bordering with Slovenia), today a pretty little town with a great archaeological park, once the third largest Ancient Roman town in Italy before being ravaged by Attila and his Huns, among the others, the townhall promotes a three day's reenactment and an episode of of the story of the town. The Carnii Celts, allied of the Romans, were attacked by a Roman consul, who wanted to get richer at their expenses. While the Carnii resisted in arms, they also sent ambassadors to Rome to support their cause in the Senate. The Senate sent them back with a plenipotentiary to stop the evil consul who was on the verge of destroying the Celts in battle. The plenipotentiary arrived in the nick of time and the Carnii were saved and freed. Here is one of the Celt ambassadors, he is a member of a reenactment group from Verona. Thanks for your kind comments.

An excellent portrait and very interesting narrative . Mind you, the Celts really were the very first Europeans, long before what we have today in the UE !
