Description
This isn't really a memorial at least not yet but it is a Farewell
I was messin around online a couple days ago and spotted an article on the Farwell concert of The Tragically Hip in their Hometowm of Kingston,
Ontario Canada ah Hell there goes another of my favorite Bands. Albeit I hadn't been paying much attention to them for a while but still it seems
so many have been dropping like flies the last few years. Turns out the the main factor for the Farewell is the lead singer Gordon Downie has
Terminal Brain Cancer and wont be be with us much longer, a real Tragic Loss I can't freaking believe it.
The Tragically Hip is a Canadian Band and like so many Canadian Bands with exception of a few they never really got the Hype in the US that they
deserved, at least all the way down here in Far West Texas. I knew of them though I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard The Hip. A few of you who know me have heard me speak of the years I worked for Airborne Geophysical Surveys a Seismic Survey Company out of Calgary Alberta Canada. I worked on the International Crew, we did all the Overseas Contracts. In 1989/90 we were working a World Bank/Petro-Canada job in Senegal/The Gambia West Africa.
After Work and Chow one night as usual just farting around Tossing Darts, Playing Cards, Drinking Beer and listening to music a buddy just back from
Time Off back in Calgary had The new Tragically Hip CD "Up to Here" and put it on. I flipped, Who is that? that's good stuff...The Tragically Hip?
cool Name, I like it, never heard of them...his retort of course was "that's because your American and a Texan if it ain't ZZTop it ain't Sh!t". Not true of course I just love good music good Rock.Anyway there I was in the Middle of Senegal West Africa where I became a Fan of The
Tragically Hip. I quit the the International Crew of Airborne in December 92 luckily while I was in Calgary that last time getting equipment Ready
for the next Job which would have been in Belieze I had the luck to catch The Hip in Concert at the Saddledome in Calgary.
That Show solidified my Fandom of Gordon Downie and The Tragically Hip, Gordy was a Wild Man, all over the stage Hitting notes I didn't think possible with such Power it gave you goosebumps, Guitarist Paul Langlois, guitarist Rob Baker, Bassist Gord Sinclair never missed a Beat one of the best Shows I'd seen up to that time.
Gordon Downie and The Tragically Hip will be missed Rock and Roll is Loosing another Legend..........

I am glad that you posted this tribute. I now have found another band that really moves. It is a shame that Gordon is going to leaves the world. I can only pray that his passing will be as painless and easy as possible.
I'd almost call their style Canadian Blues
