Description

While this photo taken from "The Wheel" (Seattle's waterfront Ferris Wheel) shows only a part of The Port of Seattle, there are some key features here. The large green and white ferry is one of 24 State of Washington ferries operated on Puget Sound. The double deck elevated roadway on the left is the Alaskan Way Viaduct built in 1953. It carries 110,000 cars and trucks a day and soon will be replaced by a tunnel by 2019. The two large sports stadiums in the left center are the home fields for the Seattle Seahawks (football) and the Seattle Mariners (baseball). And of course, the large gantry cranes on the right are for off-loading container ships. The four container terminals (not all seen in this photo) cover over 500 acres. The smaller ship, Argosy, in the lower center is one of many harbor cruise vessels plying Elliot Bay and Puget Sound. One of these days Tara and I are going to play tourists and take a ride with cameras in hand. I took this photo just before getting my new Fuji X-Pro2, so this is an Apple 6S phone photo.

Wow - this is a spectacular shot, Bill! At first I thought you'd got yourself a drone! LOL Thanks for the "tour" of the port. I hope Jo and I can visit there someday.

Amazing how well these smartphones capture images these days.

A very nice panorama, Bill, with lots of interesting details. I've always liked those cranes, which look like mechanical giraffes to me. We used to see those all the time in the port of Oakland when we lived in the SF Bay Area...

What a wonderful view from this vantage point. Your city looks big and bustly and I bet it looks super at night too. A beautiful capture. 😀

The vantage point is outstanding. Makes for a great picture. And all of it with a phone? Here I am with hundreds of dollars worth of camera equipment when I could have just phoned it in (har, har, har).

Great shot taken by your Apple smartphone. This port looks better and is more diversified than the Port of Los Angeles.

I opened this at its biggest and was absolutely fascinated. Twenty four ferries on Puget Sound suddenly makes me aware of the scale of the place! I always enjoy doing trips on our tourist boats in Poole Harbour. I look forward to your pics from the trip!

Wonderful shot, I got this exact same view when I rode the wheel four years ago. It's fascinating to see it from this level, so much more than one can get from ground level.

Great shot Bill. When the weather is nice, Seattle is very beautiful, BTW, I am reading books by Brad Taylor, and I can see your fascination with them. After watching a PBS special today on the Pentagon crash on 9/11 I can understand why so many guys are stressed out and having psychological problems. As to your visit to Vietnam you should go. I liked it, saw a lot more on that trip in 2012 than I did when I was stationed there. Vietnam is a beautiful country, and aside from some political scenes, the people were generally very friendly.
