Roses in a rose vase Colorful buds blooming Like living art You are a gift of love That will grow forever In my heart. Roses In Rose Vase prose by Carol Cavalaris © A close friend, Dianne, who is also my massage therapist, is recovering from surgery. I went to visit her at home and saw a bouquet of incredible roses, given to her by her daughter. The gorgeous blooms and intense colors inspired this artwork, that is now part of my Flowers In Fancy Vases Collection. Dianne said she loved the flowers so much and would be sad to see them die, and so I wanted to give her a bouquet that would bloom forever. Created in Photoshop with digital painting from a photo reference. Hope you enjoy. :o) CC Copyright Notice: My images do not belong to the public domain and may not be used for any purpose without my permission. You captured not only the roses, but their spirit/essence, in this painting. It's doused in deep reds and pinks, like a dream. A very sweet story about how you came to paint this: a touching gift for your friend.

The roses are made of swirls as much as furrows; and you highlight many of the petals in bold whites, which makes them feel luminous. (You have many pathways to luminescence.) The deep red roses stand out with deep contrast to the pink ones. And you've painted roses in the background as if the whole universe resonated with them---which is, I think, what you were trying to convey. Like the roses are so strong, they create 'echoes' throughout the universe.

The reds and pinks around the center are gorgeous. And your table cloth---what looks like a deep red/crimson silk throw-cloth, with floral design---is a radiant ground to the piece, draped down to the bottom of the frame like a thick opulent liquid. And the vase is almost like a reflection (in a mirror) of the flowers above. Many dimensions to these flowers.

The top almost is like a cloud that radiates out of the flowers. A lot of radiating energies up there. A very powerful and very sensual portrait of roses for your friend. And doused in rose "essence" (the hues). With strong shading on the edges to let everything else stand out, by comparison. Grand and opulent work, Carol. It embraces your viewer with great sensuality, opulence and embrace. Really glorious.

(I'll stop here for now, and pick up more in the coming days...As always, it's a great pleasure.)

Mark, thanks so much for your lovely comment. I love what you said about roses creating echoes throughout the Universe. I think the beauty of a rose, that is so intense and momentary, lives in so many memories filling the Universe. It is impossible to capture the true delicate beauty of a real rose, so I tried to express the radiant and healing energy of the rose in this artwork. When I saw them they truly inspired me with their immense beauty in their glory and I didn't want them to fade away forever. I often gaze at flowers in bloom and feel they give so much joy I want the feeling to last, so I paint them. My friend, Dianne, has been a healing gift to me from the Universe and in a way this art is a way to keep our special relationship blooming.
