Not an exact or even intended representation of the show or the people in it, this was loosely inspired by a guilty pleasure of mine; the Travel Channel show Ghost Adventures. I am a total skeptic when it comes to ghosts but I find the show interesting and often amusing. (No disrespect meant to the guys on the show, I admire their courage for going into those creepy as hell places at night plus their obvious and genuine dedication to their mission. I’m just having a little fun here.) I try never to miss an episode or a marathon of the show because it’s just that damn fascinating to me. I don’t watch any other “paranormal” shows, just Ghost Adventures. The guys from the show are also a blast to follow on Twitter. Oh, I also love the first half of each episode where they talk about the history of the sites they are investigating because I’m a total history nerd (and former history major).
If you’ve watched the show (or any of the other paranormal shows) then you probably recognize some of the elements of this piece. In the lower right corner are “balls of light” or “ghostly orbs” which often make appearances on the shows around the time they go to record EVPs. That’s what the device is the man in the foreground is holding; a digital EVP recorder. I tried to make the scene look like it was recorded in night-vision but that didn’t look good to me so I instead created an “artistic interpretation of night-vision”. I actually started on this artwork back in 2013. I just now, finally, finished it.
