Description
Limping heavily JS went back to the balcony: the fight had reopened his wounds and he was bleeding badly.
"I'm losing too much blood, Eve," he mind-said to justify his delay. He felt dizzy and it wasn-t a good sign, his legs were shaking violently.
"Lee'll hang me for that." Sighing JS took an healthy dose of back-crack, the spec-ops' drug, and dressed his wounds. Then he retrieved his gun, all the ammos he could find, and took a machine gun for good measure. He helped himself to the light boots of a dead Wabi.
"Eve, I'm coming!" he draw Nowheregate, his sword, cached inside the tall armored boots of his Wabi uniform and slung it across the shoulder.
"Is he dead?" 3TC elbowed viciously Eve, glaring at her as if trying to read her mind. Eve was obviously distraught and 3TC began to hope. The former EVIL's boss stared in the direction they came from: Badu was nowhere to be seen.
"Don't tell me they've killed each other, Badu and Sea!" He snickered hissing like a serpent. "That's sheer luck! Badu was turning into a pain in the arse. Of course I'd deal with him sooner or later, probably sooner, but... Ah, ah! I killed two birds with one stone. Do you believe in destiny, Eve?"
"Yes, I do." Eve flashed her most cruel smile. "How could I not?"
3TC immediately turned white. "You mean the bastard is alive?" he cried shaking her by the shoulders.
Rat-a-tat-tat.
A violent gunfire burst out. Dangerously closer. 3TC called the Wabi stations outside.
"Situation?"
"We are barricaded in the inner patio, sir."
Heavy gunfire.
"Withdraw!" someone yelled.
A different voice: "We are going above and beyond our duty, sir."
"How many are they?"
An embarrassed silence followed. "One, but he fights like the devil!"
"You must kill him! Don't bring him here!"
On the radio 3TC heard screams, bangs and the sound of a microphone falling to the ground.
Rat-a-tat-tat.
Bang! Bang!
They were shooting, way too close.
"You, take the men left and go to assist the Wabis." G-8 shouted to 3TC.
3TC looked at his motley troops: Gray scientists and engineers, some of them had never picked up a weapon.
"We'd better take off." He ventured.
"No, the cryo-coffin isn't on board yet." G-8 said indicating the coffin floating in the air.
"I go, but she comes with me." 3TC replied grabbing Eve's arm. Eve was his life insurance: Sea wouldn't dare shoot for fear of hitting her and G-8 wouldn't take off without her.
"Nonsense, she's too important! She comes with us." G-8 retorted.
3TC stared. You didn't have to be telepathic to understand that G-8 would take off without him. The coffin was too large and too heavy: he and his troops were de trop.
"I don't think so!"
"G-0 needs her!"
"Fuck G-0!" 3TC roared shooting at the Gray operating the crane. The man crumpled on the controls, the load jib started to sway violently, slamming into one of the control bunkers. The coffin with G-0 dangled for a few moments held by a mess of wires and then dropped into the abyss. For a moment all were silent.
Dump. Crack. Hiss.
The coffin had hit the bottom and smashed, sealing G-0's ultimate fate.
G-8 gasped. She leaned over the railing, when she turned, her face was distorted by a fierce and fanatical wrath: "Sacrilege! How dare you Earthling scum!"
"Fuck you!" 3TC replied, then turned to Jelani, his bodyguard. "Come on, mate, we're taking off."
Boom!
With an infernal noise the crane collapsed, the jib fell down on the bridge, damaging it. G-8 had blasted the charges. Now the remains of the crane were between them and the boarding gate.
"He's making mincemeat of us!" shouted a Wabi rushing in. Stopping at the door another turned to shoot.
Someone let loose a single round, killing him.
A hail of bullets pinned them on the bridge. JS was storming their last sanctuary.
3TC and the others took cover into the debris of the crane, but G8 advanced shouting:
"Sea, kill this Earthling scum, and we can have a deal!"
