Description

The cockpit of the 2016 BMW 435 Coupe. There are so many buttons and functions it is almost overwhelming.There are buttons and switches for the Sports Package, the Track Handling Package, the Adaptive Technology Package (which includes heads-up display, and includes lane departure warning, active blind spot detection, active driving assist, and side and top view cameras plus front and rear cameras and sensors). The 8-speed automatic has normal mode, economy mode, while engaged in this mode the engine speed will go automatically to 700 rpm when pressure is eased off the accelerator, sports mode for more aggressive driving and manual shifting via steering mounted paddles. It has a stop/start function which can be turned off, and energy generated during braking recharges the battery, similar to the Formula 1 KERS system (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). The center console mounted I Drive allows access to all these functions including stereo controls, navigation, telephone address book, maintenance info, individual tire pressure sensors and more. I had it in for the annual maintenance and oil change (now the oil gets changed every 11, 000 miles instead of 15, 000 miles) and the dealer suggested that I go periodically on line and download from the BMW website updates onto a thumb drive and upload that information onto the car, so all the technical functions are current, similar to updates to smart phones and computers.
