Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Animals have the most wonderful souls. their abilities are so underused. I had a little rabbit years ago that i took to nursinghomes. She would snuggle in any lap she could find. Sometimes she would wonder the halls and decide who needed her the most. She always found the resident that was having a down day.

of the two photos, this sepia version is the best - more impact! Good capture

I really like the sepia you have used here. They seem to have a pretty cozy time together :-)

Very nice capture Andrea. I like the sepia look very much and I'm sure that Ralph enjoys his pats

A superb vintage look. They both look like they are looking at the same thing. The telly perhaps? One of the great fears of many people is that they will be forgotten. You and the kids perform a wonderful service.

I wonder who that was?
Julies red boys are very steady. Lovely photo, well done Ralph.

Awesome how the same image can be totally different as night and day.
Thanks for sharing.
What a great service you and your furkiids are doing for the lonely hearts and sometimes forgotten elders.

Excellent photo!! And though the humans often are so cruel to animals, they still share their love with us! We went to the vet yesterday to vacinate two of our cats, when the assistant told us, that the police brought them a 5-6 week old kitten, they found on a very crowded place with lots of traffic. It obviously was dumped by someone. We decided to take it with us to foster it, rather than let it be brought to a shelter. She's such a loving cuddly soul and gives all her love she has - unconditionally…!

I had the good fortune to make friends with a new dog last week. I believe she's my dog-in-law, since she lives with Bill's step-brother and his wife. Addy is a cow dog, and as sharp as a tack. Her people had red setters many years ago (absolutely nuts, as you say), and having a smart dog around is SO much fun! Addy understands plain English quite well and doesn't require short, one-word commands in order to understand what you want from her. She lives on a large piece of property and gets to go outside to run around several times a day. Every morning when I came downstairs she recognized my footsteps (I'm quite careful on stairs) and came to greet me. Nobody else got such royal treatment, so I was feeling singled out in a rather nice way. I hope when I'm old someone brings a nice dog around to visit me! :)

Ralph (and you) do great work for the elderly people; I have had several red Setters... yes they can go completely nuts, but make everyone laugh

(you have a commenter called "FurNose". I don't know this person, but I love the name. Beats "anahata.c". And I need a new avatar, which has nothing to do with anything...) This is a lovely and loving shot, and your sepia---with strong green and yellow undertones---is beautiful. Reflective. I couldn't do a session here without addressing your many nursing home pieces. This is beautiful, Andrea. And I love how the blanket/afghan and furniture envelops, caresses the whole shot. A loving shot, of a woman who looks like she has great dignity.
