Description
We huddled low under the oilskins in the center of the ship with the other few passengers, too tense for conversation. Our captain, Barth the goblin stormdriver, was poised and ready at the rear. The stormcatcher stood at the prow, his arms wide in welcome to the black clouds that were rolling in off the sea. His rubber cloak completely hid his face. We could make out the faintest of mumblings coming from beneath the hood. His incantation was taking shape. The clouds met our ship in a crash of lightning and a torrent of rain. But, the goblin and the mage stood fast. Tendrils of blue fire arced across the stormcatcher's fingers and jumped backwards over his shoulders, filling the huge gossamer sail. It crackled with energy and sparked as the great wings unfurled and began pounding the air. More of the electric fire rushed down the copper rigging into the huge cylinders on either side of the ship until they too glowed and sparked. When it seemed that all batteries were about to burst, the captain pulled back on two huge wooden levers and we shot like an arrow off the side of the cliff. The great ship, Raijin, had taken to the skies with a giant leap from its nest of iron.
- So, I finally had to make something that didn't involve characters (although it will once I can get the goblin sorted out). The Raijin is my newest creation for my story...the means of mass transport in my world of Elemental magic. So, I added a bit of technomancy. :) The ship is a conglomeration of the Daz Ancient Greek Ship, a lot of swapped out shaders, the Feathered Wings, and some side engines that I constructed out of the primitive shapes available in Daz. I spent a lot of time redoing surfaces with Mec4D's Iray shaders, since the boat wasn't originally designed for it. Plus, I wanted a lot more brass and copper on it. The boat flies by means of the wings as lift and the engines as jet power. The sail is used as a net to catch and store the lightning. The stormcatcher mage, is the conduit for bringing the lightning to the sail. But, the key operator is the Stormdriver. In this case, he is a goblin that discovered he just had a knack for tech. :)
Thanks for looking!

I like the story. I REALLY like how you've pieced together the ship. The image looks cool, but there is one thing that doesn't look right to me. I think the lightning bolt should be much brighter in intensity.

Thanks! I totally agree. I've had some difficulty with these shaders when it comes to getting enough emission. I'm trying to make it work without resorting to postwork. What happens when I just crank up the luminosity, is the entire sphere prop that the lightning is on will light up...killing the bolt effect. I'm wondering if there is another good method for putting the lightning in the scene. No doubt additional highlights from the bolt onto the ship would really make the image pop.
I appreciate the input!
