Description

Fritz has had a rough week. Two or three weeks ago he had a dental for his 14th Birthday, and whilst he was under they did blood tests to ascertain his Phenabarbitone levels. The results showed that he was no longer taking a therapeutic dose, and so he had 10 days on the meds once instead of twice a day, and then last weekend we were about to start on 10 days of every other day. BUT, as a consequence, on Monday morning last he had a huge Grand Mal fit which lasted nearly 10 minutes, which just shows you can't always believe blood tests. Anyway the vet put him back on double the original dose, and he was so drugged up, completely stoned, that he could hardly walk So on Thursday I halved the dose again so that was taking what he was on before the tests, but on Saturday morning he had a Petit Mal fit, only about a minute, from which he recovered very quickly and ate a good breakfast. Then a couple of hours late he had a mini stroke! So now we take the chariot on our walks and the Plan C dose of half a tab at night and quarter at breakfast seems to be working. He can walk slowly and sniff but when he gets tired I pop him in the invalid carriage and we can then get a move on!

I am very sorry for Fritz Andrea! And for YOU! It gives so much stress! Yes, blood tests never show everything that is going...even for persons is the same thing. I do hope Fritz recovers soon and can be well as before,so to do his usual promenades:)! Meanwhile the chariot is a great idea! He does what he is able but feels always protected and he never feels apart of you, nor of his brothers, this way:) He is very lucky having YOU at his side. I wish the very best in his recover!

Thank heavens for the doggie stroller! I'm quite sure ours prolonged Mandy's life, giving her a good quality of life and lots of fun that she wouldn't otherwise have had. Fritz looks quite content up there. I hope the medication continues to be effective at the current dosage, and that he enjoys himself on your outings!

Poor Fritz, I was wondering how he was. I cannot understand why your vet changed his dose? I do hope he recovers well, they are always a worry.

Poor Fritz! I had no idea he was that age. He looks so youthful. Has the vet considered potassium bromide? It has similar properties to phenobarbital but does not damage the liver.

I really like this image. The expression on Fritz’ face seems to be saying, “I told you I was royalty.” I add my good wishes that Fritz will soon be back to his old self.

Andrea, I am so sorry, that Frits isnt well. How nice it is, that you have the invalid carriage, when he gets tired. And I know how worried you all are. I hope he will get over this and be well again. My very best wishes for that.

Very nice picture of your three furkids Andrea.

The carriage is a great idea indeed and hopefully some fresh air and TLC will help Fritz through this tough time.

Thinking of both of you, take care.

Oh, the poor baby; the seizures are scary, for sure. And then a stroke? Oh, I don't like to hear that. Give him lots of love from me!
