Description

It's been about a year and a half since I worked on this. Finally got some time yesterday. Wish I could figure out a way to load two pics in one upload so you could see the progress made in one afternoon. This began as a class project. It's my third painting ever, so naturally I thought I'd try to copy a master artist. (Cuz that's reasonable.) I figure it's got at least a dozen or so layers to go before it starts to look finished. There are a few things I want to try to fix along the way, such as Telemachus' eyes and mouth/chin ratio. Any feedback would be appreciated. Here's a link to the page for the original. Even the photo doesn't do it justice. David's original is luminous, jaw-dropping. If anyone can get to Los Angeles to visit the Getty (it was in LACMA previously), it would be a fitting entry on your bucket list. http://www.getty.edu/art/collection/objects/806/jacques-louis-david-the-farewell-of-telemachus-and-eucharis-french-1818/
