Description

Andrea (durleybeachbum) has posted delightful drawings, for each day of October. She calls them "Inktober". Well, I did three, and the other two were so bad, my pens ran away. But this one is from years back, and I decided to post it. (I may have posted it before, but I don't think so.) Please zoom; it's big, and you'll see the grainy paper---called "newsprint"---which tore my felt-pens to shreds. Anyway, this is my humble contribution to Andrea's series... --------------------------- Finally, I'm still commenting: It takes me such a long time, and my sister's had setbacks (and me, work), so it's been slower than I've wanted. But I've got about 10 of you left, and I'll get to you all, I promise. Thanks for your wonderful comments and care, and I wish you all a fine Thursday! M (PS---the Cubs won the World Series tonight, and it was the most nerve wracking sports-event I've ever seen. The Cubs were known as "the Doormat of the Major Leagues"---ie, everyone wiped their feet on them. So when they won tonight, a lot of us thought the sky would fall. You should hear it outside my window...) --------------------------

The headline I read was "The billy goat is dead!"

A very sweet rendition of Fritz although the tail looks a little of.

Sending good wishes to your sister.

There is in these essential lines so much love for life! The apparent simplicity collect actually the values of peace, friendship, the gentleness of a beautiful day, full of joy and brilliant light. A great work of art !!!!

HA! Who will not love those two friends. The dog has a rest from guardening and the bird takes over. :) I love how the bird looks like it wonders if he is dead or not. Love it :D

Hot Dog, the cubs win. Cool drawing, Mark.

It by far was the biggest win in sports history. Very nail bitting when the Indians tied it up in the 8th. Go Cubs..

Love the economy of line that expresses so much with so little - something I'm totally incapable of doing, which makes me admire it even more. I do wonder if that's a mushroom growing out of the dog's butt, though...

What a game 7 that was last night! I didn't really have a vested interest in either team, but I tend to root for underdogs & who can be more of an underdog than a team that was down 3 -1 & hadn't won a world series in 108 years? It was a roller coaster of a game with wild swings of momentum & tension galore - definitely one of the most exciting baseball games I've ever seen & I was glad the Cubs were able to pull it out...

this is so cute, the bird seems to be wondering how a puppy can sleep on such a beautiful day. congratulations on the Cubs win!

Nice use of simple ink lines in this concept of a sleeping dog with a paddle tail, Mark. The bird reminds me of those that sit on the back of hippos and rhinos. And, an exciting tension filled game last night. I'm really happy for the Cubs. No more "wait til next year." But although you both sketch in ink, there is one thing you and Andrea don't have in common: that's baseball. Or even a hot game of cricket.

How can you not love this? :-D Simple but fun, and a real smile-inducer - and isn't that what art is all about? LOL

I wanted to do a couple pieces for Inktober, but alas..... Too many irons in the fire. As usual.

I seem to remember reading some time ago about some kind of curse on the Cubs - seems like it involved a goat or something... Anyway, looks like they broke the curse, finally. Or maybe because they snatched up an ex-Royals player. You saw where they ended up this year! Ptttthhhhh.....LOL

Mark, I just LOVE this! I'm only just now learning to be more simple, and it's partly because of you!

Did'ja see that comment from Andrea? Huh? Wow! I like this because it's cute and because it's so "Mark," but she actually knows what she's talking about!

Late to the game, as I always am these days; you know how much I love your "doodles", there's no wasted motion in any of them. You capture the mood, the ambiance, the personality of these persons you sketch into being with just a few little motions of your pen. I'm in awe, I could NEVER do this with your offhand skill!
