Description
OMG, Around the world in eighty days.
Some old film shots I scanned from a trip I took to New Mexico perhaps some 25 plus years ago. This was at the world famous Albuquerque International Balloon Festival which is held each October. I was on my way to visit my brother in Santa Fe at the time and it just so happened to coincide with the festival.
And I believe I showed these same pics and those to come on Renderosity in 2009. I doubt if any of the current members remember the series anyway, so I'll be reposting them just for old times sake.

Nice pics on the balloon. Good focus and detail. Am I seeing a rope tether on this balloon ? I just can't tell if it's ascending or descending either.

I don't see any tether, even when enlarged. And I believe the balloon was ascending at that point. Remember, this was way back in 1983, so it's hard to recall, even with a good memory, and mine is barely functional.

I do too. I see an almost hoizontal white stribe to the right on the upper picture and a very pale string hanging from the lower part of the balloon down to the basket. My focus is good just now. ;-) I love both shots. Beautifully captured.

Well your son and Helle are seeing things I had to look hard to see---the rope tether, and the horizontal white line (as if this were a cable car moving sideways) (!), but they're barely visible. What we do get is a fine angle on this ad-filled balloon, and the lovely hues, where the balloon has a slight burnt tint to it, and a sky tinted with subtle pinks. And your crop brings the balloon to the fore perfectly. The bottom shot shows the bottle in perfect center. While I was commenting on you back in 2009, I don't remember these---but that means little, as I don't remember a lot of what I saw back then. But it's great to see pics from so long ago; and from film, to boot. (I assume, since you scanned them.) Very restful, and beautiful hues.
