Description
A few cartoonist friends of mine were, like me and you and many other people, I"m sure, more than a little shell-shocked by last Tuesday's election, and some of them, myself included, had no idea how to respond. Sure, you can crack wise about a bankrupt reality star becoming president of the United States — after all, isnt that the American Dream? Anyone can grow up to be president? Even bankrupt reality stars? — but this time around, it was more than a bit hard to make it.. you know, funny.
And that's supposed to be our job, right? Ladle out a bit of humour to temper the daily horror?
I had to think about this one for a bit before responding. Yes, we can protest the fact that this buffoon will be inaugurated on January 22nd — or whenever it is. We can make fun of his porn-star wife (although I do take exception to that, sorry — she didnt know she was going to be hauled out into the spotlight with her past fully on display, and we're all supposed to be about sex-positiveness, right?) and his "Look, I shot a tiger!" sons. But beyond that, right now, there's not much we can do, folks. It's done. Move on, have a beer with your friends, and hope for the best in whatever happens next.
Hell, if nothing else, this got me out my angsty little creative rut. now, go find yours, okay? And tell me about it in the comments. If nothing else, this is a time when we could all use a little mutual support.

Right on, Sean! I was also one of the millions who was shocked at the results of the election! Like yourself, I was numbed and felt like I was going through the seven stages of grief all at once! He's not President yet, so I'm going about my business and trying to avoid chatting with the Trump supporters in my building.
We can only hope for the best and live it out. I have no doubt, as usual, he'll keep putting his foot in his mouth and supply you and stand-up comics with plenty of material!!
Wishing you the best! Mickey "Daddy" Ray

We have an arcane thing from the past called "Electoral College" which elected Trump, not the popular votes. So maybe you can create something akin to skeletons in powdered wigs and college robes huddling around a big wooden table with 2 dolls representing the candidates and one that has the most axes wins. Morbid, ain't I? LOL

Hi Sean, you´re absolutely right. Nothing can be done now but wait and see what will happen - all around the world, I even suppose ... Anyway, humour can be a sharp sword - keep going on.

You and my husband are about to drag me back into the land of the living. I was so depressed on Wednesday it was awful. I now take some comfort in the fact that each major state was close and that she won the popular vote. I agree it is time to do away with the Electoral Collage. I'm going to fill my afternoon working on Gonzo's Santa suit. That should cheer things up a bit.
