The AVRO AEW.Mk. 2 Shackleton Airborne Early Warning aircraft was used by the Royal Air Force and the South African Air Force between 1951 and 1991.It was used primarily for maritime reconnaissance, but also as troop transport and for search and rescue operations. Ah ha, a place I've driven past but never been through. By the looks of the shadows you must have been here around mid-day. I can feel the heat. I've heard a lot about these aircraft but never seen one. Imagine maintaining all those propellers:-)
