After passing the new Christmas lights decoration in front of the railroad station I passed the square in front of Grand Hotel.
There the Christmas tree was raised and decorated with a different light arrangement than last year. So, I photographed it, too. I later saw that the lights inside the hotel make the people visible. There are also lights on the facade, making for interesting effects such as the lighting from below.
On the ground to the right and left are large, thick candles lighting the foot paths.
Swedes are very much for candles and candle light, making all kinds of creative patterns in the dark. This love of candles and lights come from very short days during winter.
The small white circle to the right of the tree is my camera's flash bouncing off something. Considering the distance, this really surprised me.
ENJOY!

I think if all the money spent of decorations were to be used to provide food to the people with little means of support, it would be better than just looking "pretty". however I can appreciate the beauty and have installed decorations for former clients(anything legal to earn money). I have had none at my house, since my sons were small. growing up we were "dirt poor", but my mother put up a tree with lights that were given to her. she had no money to purchase any, because what little she earned went toward our food/ utilities

I concur with Richard regarding helping the poor. Great capture, though

Lovely decorations which help to add to the festive season and let folks forget their troubles for a bit. However the old saying is true, "It's hell to be poor" and we shouldn't forget the needy at this time of year. My Dad worked a second job at Christmas to buy presents for the kids when I was a boy. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had any.

A lovely photo, and such beautiful ambiance here. I love candles as well - there's just something magical about them.
