"You've become those foxes' lap dog, Xeni," Monique seethed. "All of you: lap dogs! You and Matthias and that holier-than-thou witch Meghan, who I seriously hope gets stomped on by a Pak before long. You're all fools!. Think the Melani will thank you for your service in helping to save everything and shower you with praise and medals? No, they will rather take Mars and Europa and God knows what else they can get their grubby little paws on. Hell, even Earth! You've all traded sovereignty and common sense to side with Imperialists! They've ruined Earth just as much as the Paklet! You're helping to make humanity extinct, Xenia; perhaps not yet in body, but definitely in spirit!"

The Paklet occupation of Earth is a year old, and nerves are frayed beyond belief. Monique Turner (right) is a xenophobe, possessing a hatred for all alien life. She was suspicious of the Melani when they took up stakes on Mars in 2010, which was only reinforced when the Melani and Hux engaged in limited warfare on Earth, followed by the later invasion of the Paklet.
She has ill will towards Meghan Mercury, her brother Matthias' fiancee. She questions the friendship and loyalty of her friend Xenia (left), whom she felt went too far in befriending both the Melani and Meghan.

Very intense scene! Each side has their own valid points. but when it comes down to it, if Earth tries to fight the Paklet on their own, the world will cease to exist as the earth people know it.

Russia and China might disagree with you, Mike. Putin (or someone similar) may see the Paklet's coming as what will finally bring the Russian Bear out of hibernation and give rise to a new USSR.

Yeah, I'll have to backtrack on this story, but If I've got it correctly, an alien species parking itself in an inhabited system is either a diplomatic move, or grounds for war. There's nothing subtle about a move like that.

That's pretty much the gist of it, Madbat. For whatever reasons, the Mels failed to establish prompt dialogue with Earth. They waited a few months after settling on Mars to do so, and it hurt them diplomatically.
I want to think their efforts are ultimately benign, but who knows for sure...
(I need to work on this more.)
