Description

The distance from Pisac, elevation ~9,500-ft., located at the upper end of the Valley of the Inca, also known as the Urubamba River Valley, to Aguas Caliente, elevation ~6,600-ft, is approximately 50 miles. The Valley of the Incas can be reached from Cusco by bus or private vehicle and can be driven to Ollantaytambo. From there the only connection to Aguas Caliente is by rail. The only vehicles in Aguas Caliente are buses used to shuttle people to Mach Picchu, and a few commercial vehicles. There are no private vehicles or taxis. As the name implies, there are some hot sulfur springs that bubble from the rocky ground. There are several pools with varying temperatures ranging from 38 C to 46 C. The municipality of Aguas Calientes maintains locker rooms and other amenities for a small fee at the site.. This picture was taken on 27 August 2014, Sig...

Certainly a lovely view and probably many others along the train line. Can we assume that there is a hot springs at Aguas Caliente?

My, beautiful photo. Bridge over deep ravine, nice narrow guage track, interesting huts (station?). The curve of the track beckons one's interest onward. So much interesting in this photo. And thanks for the info about access and transportation. Keep up the good work! :-)
