Description

This is another view of and from Machu Picchu. It is looking down the other side and shows the Urubamba River and the railroad tracks. The Urubamba River, roughly about 1,500-ft below this vantage point, loops around the base of Machu Picchu for about 300 degrees. The railroad tracks, adjacent to the river, continue downstream from Aguas Calientes, where rail passenger service ends, to a hydroelectric power plant The elevation of Machu Picchu is given as 7,972-ft. I assume that is to the entrance, the lowest point of the entire ancient city. Within the ruins of Machu Picchu the elevation varies several hundred feet Everything is connected via more than 3,000 steps, different height for each step, and no hand rails. It was that that played havoc with my feet, angles, shins, and knees. I am glad I got that out of the way. This picture was taken on 26 August 2014, Sig...

I didn't realize the toll I paid for climbing around up there (at Machu Picchu) until I came home. My angles were swollen, and my shins and knees were hurting.

An awesome photo. I don't really have a bucket list, but if I did, visiting Machu Picchu would be near the top...
