Beauty and the beat, she never stops as long as the music keeps playing. This image somehow reminded me of something we saw this past summer when out for dinner at a local lakeside restaurant. A family; grandparents, children, and grandchildren were all out for dinner on this wonderful sunny warm afternoon. As is common, there was a band playing wonderful music from the sixties and seventies that were almost all perfect to dance to. At some point we noticed the young teenage granddaughter watching the folks dancing. Suddenly we noticed the grandparents were out there dancing to the music of their era, and the granddaughter moved yet a little closer to observe. After a song or two the grandmother needed a rest, and seizing the opportunity, the granddaughter assumed her spot on the dance floor with the grandfather. She may not have known all the steps to the dances they knew, but she was obviously enjoying the opportunity she had to learn them from her granddad. And what a wonderful sight for all of us who got to watch and see the joy on their faces. It was even better watching the faces of the rest of the family who came to see what was happening on the dance floor. It brought smiles to everyone's faces, even those of us who weren't part of the family. If only the rest of today's youth could find so much joy from some of the traditions of their parents and grandparents. They don't know what they're missing out on.
