Description

In the spirit of the holiday season, I decided to add something seasonal to my gallery. This is a scene I created last year to be intended for use as a Christmas card. For those of you who are familiar with Poser, you probably recognize the building. And even if you don't have Poser, you may recognize the building, since the building is historic. This building is Poser's version of the Raleigh Tavern in Williamsburg, Virginia. Here I rename it the Trelawney Inn, just because I line the name, and because the building itself strikes me as being like a cottage hidden somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. Trelawney sounds like a name of some old English manner or estate that might be owned by some wealthy family of aristocrats or just some people with money. I imported the scene into Carrara 8. Then I added a plane with a simple white shader and then added a displacement map and a noise shader to the plane to create the effect of a snow covered ground. I then added some particle generators to the chimneys to create the smoke. Then I added a few trees. To give the effect of snow on both the trees and the building I just simply used an altitude and slope shader layer on them both, layered on top of the existing textures. Here is the accompanying poem I included with the Christmas Card scene: The night is bitter cold and a blanket of snow has settled over the bleak landscape. But up ahead there is a toasty warm beckoning building signaling hope ahead. The doors are open beckoning cold, and weary travelers to enter. The fires are stoked and the fireplaces are roaring with flame and smoke billows from the chimneys and the night is filled with hope and joy. May your holidays be similarly filled with hope and joy.

That was actually unintended. But I had to crank the lights up bright enough so that the building would appear lit from the inside. But the lights, of course would shine through the windows and cast their lights onto the snow. I suppose I could have turned off the shadows for the lights, but I decided to keep them the way they were, because it created an interesting effect.
