Description

This is some kind of remake of an image I did maaaaaaany years ago using Poser & Bryce. When I came across the amazing Lekkulion figures over at DAZ this image instantly popped up in my mind. Frankly I'm still trying to find my way with Iray lighting vs render time/quality. This one took ages to render, probably due to the various different lights. So I'm not completely happy with the graininess... Quite some things to learn. So any help/suggestions are more than welcome! Hope you like it anyways. Let me know what you think. :)

I found that if you give it more pixels to work with, it doesn't take any longer and you get less graininess...let me open it and see where I did that... ok it's under Progressive Rendering in the Render Settings, where it says Max Samples, default is 5000-- give it 9000 instead; also put the Rendering Converged Ratio at about 98. The biggest speed boost I got was getting a nVidia 970 card; you can't go up to the 10 series or the Titan or iray doesn't run, according to Hadcancer --he tried to pop up to the 10 series and had no luck with it. I kind of love the graininess here--I think it adds to the mood; very romantic! (Some people I have read are just rendering 2x the size they need and reducing it to reduce grain, but I wasn't too impressed with my own attempts to do that.)

Many thanks for the detailed hints. I'll give it a try for sure. I also read on some forum that indoor scenes take longer than outdoor scenes. Probably I also kept too many of the default lights that come with the room. Anyway I'm still learning the Iray tricks. Nvidia graphic card is no option since I use my iMac for all of my artwork. 😉

Love the color & composition. I find that in Iray lighting makes or breaks the rendering and moreover rendering time. I tend to use single lighting (mostly an emissive shaded sphere) or the new Alterglow props. Rendering times approx. 2 hrs on my "average" machine.

Pm me, if you want some more information.

Happy New Year.

For a work in progress and ongoing light experimentation, this is an amazing piece of art! I cant wait to see your final version of this.
