Description

Starfish or more correctly, sea stars, are star-shaped echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea. I think these may be Echinaster spinulosus, the small spine sea star. There are some fascinating facts and great photos here Here and another photo of these Here

Since they feed on shellfish fishermen used to cut them up whenever they found them and then couldn't understand why there were so many of them. Sea stars = 1, Fishermen = 0
