You returned to RR with a 'blast': This is a marvelous portrait, with an almost "cut-out" feeling, as if you assembled this painting with cut-out pieces of paper. It's beautifully painted. You use contrasting hues beautifully in all your work; and here, you've used 'complementary colors' of orange and blue; and you've accented this very chic woman with blue eye shadow, red-pink lipstick, dark red nail polish, and a medium-bright yellow for her necklaces and bracelets. The rest of her is black and white, and that beautiful gray---which, to me, looks like the silhouettes of two dogs. (Borzois, a breed like that.)

You are moving in and out of abstraction, in images like this; yet you portray this woman very boldly, all the same. And your use of that massive chunk of black is brilliant, for her hair: It's like a modern halo, a modern-design version of the old Medieval haloes, in the Tempera and other paintings of the Middle Ages.

Brilliant. Shapes, for you, become alive. And they can whisper or dominate, or both. Her hair is like a heavy chord at the end of a symphony: It's very powerful, and it dominates your painting. Beautifully done; and your color-sense is marvelous. (Oh---and I forgot to say, I like the way you dissolve the paint around the edges of the image, like old deckled paper...)
