Description
Another San Francisco sign. There's always so much stuff in these places; it's sad to think people have had to give up some of their most prized possessions. I won't shop in a pawn shop for that very reason.

I was brought up to sit on packing cases till I could afford a chair!

That, and you have to wonder how many of the things in those shops were stolen from someone. I won't set foot in them, either. But it does make for an interesting photo subject.

given your feelings about pawn shops (which I fully understand), you captured this place as a dark sad place. The deep shadows inside---because it's closed, I assume---are made all the more notable by the extremely bright greens and whites of the sign: Really strong contrasts, and very 'late night urban'. The word "sale" in the window is so dulled out by the shadows, so it seems ironic and sad. Fine work, Marilyn. You captured the strange sadness of these places. Reminds me of the film, "The Pawnbroker".
