Description
I'm a huge SciFi and Fantasy fan and a lot of my professional
art has been in this genre through sculpture and hero class props
and models. Probably the finest example of pure SciFi was Kubrick's
2001. The film's climax was so surreal, it leaves a lasting impression.
I thought it would be fun to attempt a render of that scene with different
venues from Dave Bowman's "memories." This is my first go.
This of coursed could not have been done without Alvatar's beautiful
EVA Pod model.

I try very hard to give credit to prop artists. If I am in error regarding any prop, please
contact me and I will correct it. Thanks for looking!

Very cool idea you have for these alternate endings for the movie. Being a surrealist nut myself, I could think of a dozen scenarios that could make for very different intellectual responses to the story. Having said that, as my mind wonders I start to go to my silly side and of course the first place the pod ends up is in the girls locker room (LOL). Anyway, this is a really wonderful render.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your kind comments. Kubrick was indeed a genius!!!

Great lighting and texturing, especially on the floor tiles. You're going to be mad at me for this, but when I saw this render the first thing I thought of was some kind of automated domestic helper that goes around the place on its own, cleaning up every spot it passes over. :)
'2001' would be an example of SF that makes you think and wonder -- as opposed to all that no-brainer 'SF' featuring light ray swords, people in baggy clothes with fancy-pansy tricks up their sleeves, and the usual good-versus-evil story that has been done to death (sigh)...
