Description
Finally decided to try out Daz 4.9 Pro. I have had it for ages but not used it much. DS 4 & my old computer (called HAL 9000 2.0 for good reason) wouldn't play nicely together, plus I like Cararra. But after getting a new laptop last year & having so much trouble with so many Genesis models, I decided it was time to give it a try. This is a test render of my first piece, done with the Basic OpenGL engine in DS and no postwork. I need to work on the lighting a little more I think.
The last couple years, I have been a writer and copy editor on a gamer blog at http://www.d20radio.com/main/. I often use my art to accompany some of my articles, which is the purpose of this picture. It will go with a piece on romances in roleplaying games.
The 2 lovers here are Yule Queen (aka Maryn Forest), a powerful and popular winter-themed superheroine and Dr. Matt Burke, who specializes in "meta-human medicine." Officially, Dr. Burke is observing while Yule Queen tests out her powers somewhere isolated, where it won't endanger people. Maryn and Matt are clearly having a very good time doing so.
I used V5 with V4 Space Dweller & Genesis 2 male with Cool Sports. I had also found a good YouTube series by Randall Lloyd on using the Genesis Supersuit and decided to try out one of his tricks--using the supersuit, made invisible, and its morph dials to morph Cool Sports, which has very limited morphs of its own. It worked very well, except for having to leave Matt bald, since I couldn't figure out how to make the Cool Sport hood and any hair work together. V5's is End of Summer with my own color.

I understand the frustration with going to DS 4.9.whatever... one hell of a learning curve with this version (I went from 3.1.whatever to 4.9.whatever) Hang in there, it will get better - I recommend SM RodS or MadBat if you have issues...
this is a great image

I went from DS 3 Advanced to Carrara, which I have been using for several years. I was surprised I managed this much in less than a week. I will check out those resources, YouTube? And thanks for the compliment. I will have a link to the article with the 3Dlight render when it is published next week.

Off to a decent start!
Hadn't used Carrara in ages either (hadn't been rendering in ages either!) . Been finding I've been going more to Daz Studio 4.9 Pro as well. DS now also has the iray render engine, supposedly can take longer to render but can produce nicer quality with just adding a Distant Light to the scene.
I bought and been using the Reality 4.3 Luxrender render package for Daz Studio as you've seen the last few images I posted. Just a single Luxrender sunlight added. But be prepared to let it run from evening to overnight, possibly til next day when u get home from work.
use the standard / default 3delight render engine for your quick test renders, then use iray or reality 4.3 at the very end.
iray and reality both produce very similar quality of renders.

Thank you both for the comments, and I am so glad to see you posting again, Spacer_01

I used to use Carerra a lot, but I found it a pain to use with Genesis, plus I'm really liking Iray. 4.9 has a lot of features that are different than v3, take your time and do a lot of poking around. You can drop me a pm any time as well. Also, If you're on Deviantart, check out Sickleyields page. She posts a ton of resources.
