Description
The Deep Range Explorer Leif Erikson was commissioned to travel the long, lonely distances between our own solar system and remote stars. Named for one of the greatest explorers of known history, who also happened to settle the edge of the world (however briefly, the settlements lasted), the DRE series is the first step towards colonizing the heavens.
The Leif Erikson was constructed just outside the asteroid belt, around a hollowed out asteroid converted to a space dock.

Yeah, I went and tweaked it to Iray...and did my best to make things look right. Lighting became the fun part. Realism or Hollywood? And the solar system set I use (from Daz iIRC) wasn't cooperating much with the Iray mods.
Mainly, this was a test for another project...where Earth is finally moving out of the Sol system. Work to do to improve this...for sure. I hope SOMEONE likes it.

Excellent work!!!

Thanks. I got frustrated with the Iray on this one...When I get some time, I might go play with Reality. It's interesting in Iray that setting up the Sun (set is a full solar system plus an "sphere" around it for the stars) didn't work like I thought it would. And one that I rendered with Earth behind it, lighting just was NOT working. It's got to be something I'm missing, but I'll be darned if I know what.
