Jendellas asked how big is the ship? 844' long, 110' wide. (In contrast, INTREPID is 741' long, 109' wide.) Seeing IWO live and then reading those figures impressed me. I never had to do either being assigned to a shore station for my regular service time, but it looks windy and probably a bit scary if one looks down. (My sea time was as "hired help" to flush out some departments.) Anyhow, these guy and gals are taking it all in stride as they stand beneath the ship's motto. First impression when I saw this image was: Hmmm, "Air Force gloves". Hmpf! but no. They are at Parade Rest except for the gal 4th in the line up. (Yes, you petty officer!) I was amazed by how many women were at the rails. I did not realize that a ship's company would have so many aboard. Oh well. Them's the times, eh? I'm a tad confused by why some are sporting their pea coats and others aren't but then that may have been an "optional" as most landlubbers would not take in these sorts of details. (They haven't figured on the eagle eyes of Mrs. W.) We will find someone to gig. I can just feel it; you just don't get that many anchor-clankers in one area and not find something wrong.
