Description
A collection of shells & other things from the ocean - either found at beaches or purchased. I've got them displayed in a table with a glass top & wooden frame.
This was a challenge to capture. My first pass was to shoot them up close in four separate overlapping shots (with the table lid up to eliminate glass reflections). I then tried to combine them using the photomerge function in Photoshop, but though I tried several different ways to do this, none of them worked. Manually merging them didn't work either, because each of my shots was just slightly off enough that the sizes of the individual shells didn't match up. So then I stood on a stepstool & shot the whole thing in one shot from higher up - once with the glass & lid on & once with the lid open. I then selected the wood frame (eliminating the glass in the middle) from one shot & superimposed it on the objects shot without the lid. I also had to use the perspective warp tool to get it all squared up. A lot of work, but I enjoyed going through the process...

Now that must have been quite a chore just maneuvering these pretty shells around to create this perfect display. I never realized there was such a vast variety of these sea shell creatures. A wonderful assortment in this beautiful work, and much to be proud of.

WOW! This is amazingly beautiful and exciting and I love reading about the process too. It can be a long way to go, but at the end it is a good feeling, when its a succes, which I think this is. :)

Very striking! The intense detail emphasizes the seas' other-worldliness. I might start making one of these for myself.
