Description
I imagine the hands of Caravaggio presenting his interpretation of the last moments of life of the gorgon Medusa. Terrible in his pain but still terrific and able to stone with her gaze. A dedication to the great painter and his brilliant way of seeing things.

Once again, I have the pleasure of commenting on your remarkable art. Caravaggio's Medusa is uniquely his, and it shows Medusa almost as a bas relief, as if her head were presented on a platter. Your Medusa pays homage to Caravaggio, but it is wholly your own, and it's stunning.
Her snake-like locks of hair are rendered with stunning detail: They grow out of her head like murderous menaces. Even Caravaggio, with all his great drama, didn't give her head a menacing feeling like you did. And you have a hand in her hair---perhaps hers? Or maybe Perseus is holding her (as he does in classical and other art)...So much reptilian form here: The 'scales' on her hair are terrifying. In fact, it looks like you've given the snakes "rattles," indicating deadly venom and viciousness.
Her face, here, is filled with shock and rage---perhaps confronting her murderer. You made her teeth almost like teeth of a vampire. And you gave her deep dark eyes, and a long nose, and Caravaggio-esque chiaroscuro, giving her strong light and deep shadow.
Then, you've put her against a backdrop of stone carvings: eyeless and contemplative faces, floating behind her. As if the whole world were witnessing her demise, and contemplating it. Or maybe these faces are the gentler side of Medusa herself---i.e., the part of herself she dare not 'enter', because she's too terrified to know that part of her soul. Pegasus and Chrysaor aren't here---I believe---but we do get the sense that the whole universe might fly out of her, when she's slain. She seems to hold all of human malice and terror in her eyes---who knows what will fly out of her when she dies...
You created striking contrasts between her face and her hair, and the pale, beautiful, grainy sculpture behind her. Once again, you've made very clear imagery with deeply mixed emotions, all wrapped into one image. The whole gamut of human emotion...And you paid homage to Caravaggio's portrait of Medusa's head; and, at the same time, you've made a striking portrait of her fiery face, juxtaposed over a placid background of classical faces. Maybe this is a contrast of the "classical ideal" with the realities of their gods and goddesses (and the actual lives of people in the classical era). Brilliant in conception, vision and articulation. A terrific interpretation, Giuliano.
