this is the first time to hear of the battle. history books tend to leave many facets of wars out.you can be proud of him

The photo and title indicate that he survived in one piece. Vimy Ridge, another of those awful meat grinder battles of which there were so many / too many of during WWI. Something that's forgotten due to all the wars we've had since. WWI, the war to end all wars with a punitive peace. Which guaranteed all the wars we've had since. Due to industrialization we have had more wars this past century than ever before. It's so quick and easy to have machines make the weapons. In the "good old days" you had to hammer out your own sword - that took time and a lot of effort. Nice of you to post his photo as a memorial to his service and survival! :-)
