Description
This is my first Terragen pic. I am interested in algorithms to generate terrain height fields. So I created my own, it's not fractal, but rather a non-linear incremental noise interpolation.
The effect is similar to a multifractal, but more extreme, i.e. you can have extreme steep cliffs right next shallow hills, all in the same height field.
Also another advantage is that the algorithm that it can be pre-seeded in any spots and the seed will always have the highest priority and therefore greatest (100%) effect. (Unlike a fractal algorithm where only the highest parents in the hierarchical structure have a 100% effect on the outcome)
Anyway it's not finished yet, but the perfect pre-seeding adaptation will allow me to implement certain rules which will make the outcome much more realistic without the typical fractal generated height field side effects, such as monotonous slope, or in the case of ridged or multifractal algorithms the even distribution of slope extremes.
Anyway I hope if I have time to get further I hope to make a plug-in for Mojoworld that will utilize this algorithm. For now I chose Terragen since it's free, fast and detailed :)
Thanks for looking :)
