In my opinion, it would be impossible to polish that turd as a sympathetic character after all he's done, even if under a spell, but there's also one heck of a story waiting to be told there. Rem's not on the run. Emeton's hiding what happened and where he is. He doesn't think Bacna can handle being king, not just because of his disabilities, but also because how people treat him because of them. He's stalling until one of the others is old enough to be crowned.

If Ann runs, she'll lose Kith. She's not going to risk that because of the bond.
