Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

There were 2 abstracts before this, and the only reason I didn't comment on them is that I've often done a lot of your abstracts at the expense of your other photography, and I didn't want to do that this time. But your "Blue Planet" and "Rothko" were wild and compelling, and done with discipline too. I loved the glow on the 'blue planet' (i didn't know glaze beaded up like that), and your concentric radiations coming out of the circles...and the Rothko had a deep faded universe feeling, amazing that you took it from an actual bee. I like Rothko, but i can see how his work would seem dank and oppressive; or even boring. When I've seen them in person, I was mesmerized by the detail in his faded edges, and how they pulled me into his universe, which seemed vast and also restful. (The universe inside a simple shape.)
Anyway, this flower is lush and undulant, and you got real play between light and shadow, and the water drops all over it. And you did your signature edge work and colonization in the background---most visible full view---and it's sneaky of you, lol, but I love it. How you put these treatments into otherwise realistic photos, I don't know. But it works. Beautiful shot.
