Description
I've been experimenting off and on with trying to get close to a manga page look, using 3D techniques. A lot of people start with trying to gain a cell shaded look, but I'll be honest --most of them don't really look that manga to me. So I went back to the drawing board and decided on a few things. I wanted to make sure the character isn't bogged down with a lot of detail because the Manga style doesn't include a lot of surface detail of the figure. The second thing I wanted to do was to deliver as much of the background detail as I could because in this case --it's important to the image.
I used Sketchy - Toon Edge and Art Style Shaders for Iray

But it was not a one click solution, in spite of what the advertising says. There are ins and outs to it, and if you just apply the shaders and hit the render button--you're not going to be happy with the results. One thing I did discover, is that I didn't like the outling on the skin and I have a feeling that if I want it, then the best way is to ink the outlines manually with a stylus and a program like photoshop or procreate. I'm going to ink this one later on to see how it looks with the finishing touches, but this does look promising.
I'm really looking at the hair as something that I am going to have to approach from a different angle. I do want the hair to look Anime style but there is no existing way to achieve it in a way that's easy to manipulate in DAZ studio. Stay tuned and we'll see what I can come up with.
