Description

Continuing to add to our recent Washington, D.C. photos, here's a collage of much of the World War II Memorial dedicated on the National Mall in 2004. I left this collage quite large and it is best seen in full view. The memorial is dedicated to all who served during the war, both military and civilians, overseas and at home. There is so much symbolism in the memorial that if you are interested simply google: "World War II Memorial in Washington, DC". The National Park Service has a very fine Interpretive Guide that begins with an aerial view of the entire memorial. You also get two for one here. The tall obelisk on the National Mall in the background is the Washington Monument built in the mid-1800s to commemorate George Washington, once commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first President of the United States.

Man is it ever huge! Another monument I've never seen. Thanks for introducing it to me. I'll have to look it up and read about it. Thanks for that tip! Glad you've been able to make this trip and get all these great photos. A nice initiative considering everyone who can't get to Washington DC. Keep up the good work! :-)

Great shots, hon, and the main photo with the Washington Monument is perfect. Composition and interest, and a million shades of blue and white. Wonderful work!

Great photos of the Memorial, Bill! I can remember going there on a school trip long, long ago. My dad was stationed at Dover AFB, so DC wasn't too far away. I'd love to go back there one day..
