Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Ah, the famous fire side chats are also memorialized in the FDR memorial. Something he got renowned for. 4 terms - what a job he had - depression and war. Thanks for the post. A real throwback in time. My family didn't have TV, so I can really relate to this photo. Keep up the good work! :-)
My rat-ing - 6 + happy rats!

I like the sculpture & your photo of it - it really captures the spirit of a simpler time. I'm a few years younger than you, Bill, so I grew up on television, not radio & so I don't have as personal a relationship to this as you do, but I can still appreciate it & even feel a kind of nostalgia for a simpler world. FDR's comforting fireside chats have been replaced today by an endless cycle of anxiety-inducing demented tweets & we are the worse for it as a nation...

I think it was 1959 when my brother bought a TV for our mother. I can recall listening to westerns like the Lone Ranger among others on radio. I found an Admiral working radio in the trash dump and I decided to make some changes which made it into a short wave radio. no more Ranger but I could listen to the world, dreaming of traveling someday

You did a terrific job with this! I know what a challenge the light was in that dark cubby room, and you acquitted yourself admirably. Outstanding work!

Fine photography and subject matter.

I wonder how many of us would go stark-raving mad if a radio was the only form of electronic communication we had... I thought I was going to lose my mind with no internet for 2 days last week!
You really got a wonderful photo of this sculpture, Bill.

A wonderful photo of this outstanding sculpture, Bill.
I didn't have a TV till 1976, and only then because the Open University broadcasts were at 4 am and I needed to record them on VHS I have always preferred the radio, although now the quality of nature filming is so high I love those documentaries. My family has always been the outdoor sort, so Tv was no priority. BTW we had a radio quite a lot like this!

I remember coming home with my parents from trips to the mountains as a boy. Most of the trip would be made after sunset and I would listen to the radio while we made our way home. From the back seat I would hear the most wonderful radio plays and they had a major role in developing my imagination. Most of that radio is long gone and it shows in the lack of imagination so many of the younger generation possess.
This is a great image and really takes me back.

what a scene, I do remember this pose very well from my father and grandfather, that was pure concentration hearing the radio and no one had permission to disturb during the news at noon and in the evening 07:00 pm sometimes I do still hear the news in a almost same concentration :-)) perfect captured 5* and great art!

Those were the days - listening to the story and imagining the characters, settings and world. All the pictures in your own head and not on the screen.
