Description

I dedicate this upload to all the mothers out there, wherever they are. In this picture, Chelyta, the mother, poses with her two daughters Clementina (left) and Allison (right). On this day, 28 April 2017, Clementina had asked us to come to the Arizona State University where she and her three fellow graduating students had designed a project that detects very small electrical field disturbances through solid walls, that allows them to determine what is on the other side of a wall. I immediately thought of our military forces in Iraq and/or Afghanistan, or SWAT teams, for practical applications. Clementina had just graduated from the ASU Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering with an Electrical Engineering degree. Last summer she worked as an intern making $23/hr. while her mom works for the local school district in janitorial services making $12/hr. Allison, the younger of the two, will graduate next year after three years with a dual degree in Finance and Business. She just turned 20. Clementina will start her job making $71,000/year, moving expenses paid, and her employer will pay for her Masters degree. At the same time they will run a background investigation on her, a requirement for a TS/SCI type clearance. I met Chelyta, the mom, about 12 years ago when the girls were small, and she told me then, that she wants to make sure the girls get a good education and don't wind up like her, where the importance of education wasn't stressed. She worked half days at the Food Service in the school system, and as a school crossing guard, while the girls were at school, and spent the afternoons making sure the girls did their home work..She was very strict with them, and when they started taking classes such as calculus, physics, and chemistry and she couldn't help them anymore, she hired tutors. Chelyta reminded me of my mother. My mother was the everyday disciplinarian. It was her, that cuffed me on the head when I brought a letter from school that needed to be signed by my parents because I was late (08:01 instead of 08:00). It was her that scolded me for embarrassing them. It was her that made sure that I get up on time, wash and brush my teeth, and it was her that instilled in me the importance of honesty. As time goes on, I appreciate my parents more and more, both of them, but it was my mother that instilled all the values in me. When I was a child, most women were housewifes and they were never given the credit they deserved. Today, many women work and are housewifes and mothers. My parents passed away, but as long as my mother was alive in a home having dementia, I made sure she would get a bunch of flowers with lots of colors in it, because that's what she liked. I have a tendency to ramble on, but I wanted to reflect on how important my mother was in my life, instilling all the values in me that makes a decent human being, and that Chelyta did with her girls. So again, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. This picture was taken on 28 April 2017, Sig... 0She

What a beautiful tribute to Chelyta, to her commitment and tenacity. She is an amazing woman. I know how proud of her you are, and of Clementia and Allison as well, and rightly so. A most excellent way to honor your friend on Mother's Day.

Beautiful tribute to all three, and to hard working mothers everywhere. Thanks for the story. Are they friends, or family? Keep up the good work! :-)
