An elegant piece of electro-mechanical equipment & a great photo of it. I learned how internal combustion engines worked back in 9th grade science & promptly forgot everything I learned within a year or two...

Looks imposing and built to last...sure to add plenty of grunt to the classic Ford, super study capture Ken !

I remember getting twin Weber's for my Mini Cooper and man, did it fly then !

I first had 4 Stromberg 48's on a Weiand staggered 4 aluminum manifold. But- big but here-when I opened the hood and read the news on my first car it said, plain as day-Chandler-Grove. Thus when I was done sucking air---I began to study the Holley and Chandler-Grove 94 as a alternate. With the assistance of a rebuilder in 1964 I added 2 more to my Stromberg 48's along with 2 genuine Stromberg 97's! Then I helped a friend to buy all of the last spare jets for them at Warshawsky and company of Chicago. But I ended up with Darrell Rosenberger's thick metering rod D series AFB off a 350 hp. 327 Corvette. With the old 1950's four barrel manifold my friend traded me for the Stromberg's the spread bore secondary's hung out in mid-air and he did not want to drive me to Gratiot Auto Parts to buy an adapter as Finals were coming up at University so I got a burnt piston and some smoke. The really cool Stromberg's are the Anti-Detonation Injection (ADI) for big radial and V-12's in bombers and fighters of WW-II era. Now comes the funny story. SU in Britain made updrafts (for aircraft) like the Model A originally had and the Stromberg's were downdraft type like this one you show here. Let's not get sensitive about lifting the little cylinder to tune side draft SU's on British sports cars. This is not a good carburetor for automatic transmission lacking all the tiny air bleeds and emulsion tubes and slits for part throttle efficiency. Think about putting a Tremec 5-speed behind this and smoothly pulling the gears with close-ratio blip-blip like a Hydramatic on an Olds of the 50's, never altering the tiny throttle opening but barely touching the clutch to make each upshift. I learned this from the AFB with a Borg-Warner T-10 and Hurst shifter and a Weber 6000 lb clutch. Next a C-10 pickup with a Buick 430 Wildcat engine and a Rochester Quadra jet, a load of motorcycles up route 395 in the mountains ---1/2 throttle!!
