Description

Lucinda is a master at photo manipulation, at making something new out of something ordinary. When I was looking for inspiration for a gift for her, an image I hadn't posted yet of a pipe organ jumped out at me and let me know in no uncertain terms that IT was Lucinda's present, and all I had to do was mess around with it a bit. Since she doesn't come here very often any more I sent this to her via email, with instructions for experiencing this in an interactive way. The thumbnail is a smaller version of the original image, by the way. This is huge, if you want to wallow around in it! :P
Happy Birthday, Lucinda!

It didn't become obvious what it was until I zoomed. A magnificent effort, you've turned a photo into a Fractal. Happy birthday Lucinda.

This is so much like Lucinda's manipulations, it's eerie. I thought for a second that maybe you'd posted one of her works, in her honor. Not that it isn't yours--not that I don't see your touch, your way with light, etc. But you channeled Lucinda. You got a grain---subtle---and lots of morphs between light and shadow, and you never lost the pipes and their spread, the way organ pipes create a kaleidoscope along a high wall of a church. (That's something Lucinda does too---maintaining enough of the original image that we experience the original simultaneous to it's transformation.) I wallowed in it as well (largest size), and the image calls for it. Beautiful work, Tara. You're one of the few, here, who've actually spent time with Lucinda, and you know her sweetness of heart, her genuinely deep kindness, her introspection, her fine-ness, all of it; and you also know her art, and how many expressions, styles, mediums, journeys she creates. A wonderful birthday gift for Lucinda, from a genuine friend of hers. And of course it's a Tara image which undulates, pulses and shines. Beautiful! I'll get to other pieces of yours soon. Great to be back in your gallery again, Tara. I'll be back for more. Happy Birthday Lucinda! And many more!

Wow! You know I'm going to love this! I love the patterns, textures, and light. It is opulent and glorious! In an abstract way, it made me think of cathedrals, or actually, of one cathedral in particular; Peterborough Cathedral. This is not because of the appearance of Peterborough Cathedral. Though I'm sure Peterborough Cathedral, is very nice in appearance, in my memory, it tends to visually blend in with other cathedrals. What I do remember distinctly is an experience there. I walked in, tired from shopping, and sat on a wooden chair. A small, tired figure in a cavernous space. Suddenly glorious sound erupted around me, and bounced off the stone columns. An organist was practicing. Of course, I had heard modest organs in modest churches, but THIS was something else entirely. All space was filled and I became one with sound. Had I been of a more religious bent, I might have felt a feeling of closeness to God. But what I felt was an awareness of the amazing work of human hands and minds (both in music and in stone). Your image, with its metallic texture, elaborate flourishes, geometric lines, and compelling interplay of light, brought that memory and feeling of celebration back to my mind. That it is manipulation of an image of an organ is icing on the cake. This is beautiful! Thank you! The interactive way is very cool too!
