Description

I cannot possibly convey the deep feeling of joy i had this morning to find out we were going to have a Hung Parliament. To those of you who might not have noticed, our Prime Minister had called an election confident she could humiliate her opposition and assert her authority. She thought hell I'm 25 points ahead in the opinion polls, everybody loves me- but everybody hates him!- I'll trounce him- wipe out his party and become queen of Brexit Land. And it looked first thing Thursday morning like she might still just increase her majority in spite of a lacklustre campaign and the first u-turn in recorded history during an election. in spite of all this it still looked like she could increase her majority to about 60 or something like that, according to one article I read. I cringed remembering the aftermath of the last general election when the tories were doing victory rolls for days afterwards. I couldn't bare it. So I avoided all news, until I came down Friday morning and my house mate was watching the news on his i-pad. She lost her majority, a hung parliament. She had sacrificed time, energy and party colleagues to a project which gained them nothing. They have clung to power but only by convincing one the democratic unionists to prop her up. Now that is what I call Hubris! Not the best of outcomes but certainly an improvement on the status quo before! I think in the end this was Theresa May's greatest undoing. All she could say for herself in the end was that she was not Jeremy Corbyn. Perhaps Jeremy Corbyn's almost daily vilification across all media actually back-fired in the end. who knows Whatever- I dreaded waking up to find out Theresa May had increased her majority. I'm so glad she lost her majority instead, it brings me great hope for the future. Yes she is still in power, but essentially she lost a fight she didn't have to have. And secured her opponents position in the process. Now that is a paradox

After all the so called leaders that caused and led the Brexit referendum had simply walked away from the mess they created for the UK, May should have simply abandoned the whole project. Referendums are not binding after all. Just say that the next election - when it comes - would concern Brexit and how to go forward. But I get the impression that she's all about ideology over pragmatism and sensibility. Of coarse her party will likely force her out and install another leader for PM who - like May - will be just a care taker with no mandate or electoral confidence to govern.

Brexit is or not a good thing for Britain ? I think that the result of yesterday election represent a revenge of those people that do not won't to exit from Europe community. I think that is difficult to say if Brexit is a good thing or good for Britain, but Europe must make many more to solve its many problems an become an important reality, but I think also that is the only future possible. One of the more difficulties is to make understand to the people that give away from their minds that Europe should be their contra and not only Italy, or Germany, or french or spain or......... For example we must think how much difficult is for European peoples to think to partecipate at the olympic games only with a Team calle Erupe United otherwise England, Belgique, hungary....etc. For Great Britain the same problem to solve, indeed do not exist a British team, is for this kind of spirit I think was obvious the Brexit choose.

Thanks for the info. I know many Europeans are for BREXIT for their own countries since the EU is a dictatorship of ministers. No democratic elections. ANd the EU is against the member states citizens on many things like one world government who dictates to everyone. Imagine George Orwell's 1984 is already upon us. I was all for the common market, but Schengen and EU, no thanks! If FOR the people of Europe, maybe, but like it is today, no way. I hope Nigel Farage becomes PM so he can straighten out the mess. It reminds me of the mess before WWII which Churchill had to clean up when the war broke out. Thanks. Keep up the good work!

This lady reminds me a lot of Maggie Thatcher. This beastly lady, the ruler of the iron broom ... Well, I watch as she likes to pop up. But I am also glad that she does not get the backing of the citizens she had promised. Yes, too high and lost. I am excited which way it will continue. Very beautiful collage, Andrew.

Interesting to see the comments here. Being from the US, I can only speak from the observable perch. It would seem a united Europe, including the UK would be a good thing. It is my understanding that each country still has it's own sovereignty, but there are shared trade agreements, money and marshal organization and standards. I would think a strong cooperation would make a great united collection of lands to stand up to Russia, China and anyone else. Of course ideals never seem to come out exactly how we like.

The division over here is still short of civil war, but I'm not seeing either side conceding anything. That said, I personally put a lot of blame at Trump's feet for campaigning on a platform of false and exaggerated reality that this country was going down the tubes. Bringing back the economy, creating jobs and fighting for equality for all walks of life for the past 8 years is a story of progress, not doom. I have more complaints about what the government does with my tax dollars for itself than I do if it is somehow supporting hard working illegal immigrants from Mexico or Central America. I'd like everybody to go through the proper process to enter here, but I'm more concerned with tax dollars paying a salary to a useless politician who wants to bring us back to the early 50s or a freaking wall than I am about people just trying to survive. Sorry for the rant.
