Description

Books are made of paper which is sometimes made of flowers and sometimes made of silk. Almost all books are copies of a master whether hand copied or printed from plates. Perhaps it was acid rain which drew me to the plight of books. I also followed the stories of libraries caught in floods and thought lost until rescued by a vacuum chamber. Reams and quires, quartos, and folios, there was much to learn about paper folding and plowing. Perfect bindings and French bindings, the books took residence for a time and then were sold or given to the friends of the library. I had no interest in the typography until I had to make a resume. Helvetia challenged Pica. My burden was two 3 inch binders converted to a report. I studied what makes a good high school exam question. How does one read an article on metabolism at all? Will the concept of superscript and subscript survive as popular word processors dismiss style and color? Must one read a whole book to be frugal? What is the difference between a bible and a missal? Can one read all the languages of the world by simply learning to pronounce the various letters of the alphabet? When one runs out of guides to pronouncing the alphabet can one make up an orthography like the anthropologists who read the stiles like the Rosetta Stone? Are alphabets made by more modern known sources like Cyril and Methodius in the old world and Baraga in the new, natural and persistent? How do numbers influence the interpretation of the structure of written tomes? Do definitions like gamma is the ratio of the specific heats for volume and pressure affect the dreams you have when you read later in Greek? Is the alpha male of the species a good bet? ( I slipped that one in for those who can't stand the intellectual stodginess.) In the image there is a place where Shapell is next to Chappell on the bottom shelf. Neither is the birth name of the author or subject.

Like people as books they fill our bridges. Cool books. I did not see Donalds Trump's favorite book. "Isis for dummies"

Looks almost as full and messy as my book case. Glad to see I'm not alone with my library mess. Keep up the good work! :-)

Some might wonder why "Fire In the Wind", "Malcom -X" and "Sportster" are on the same shelf. It isn't Dewey or ISBN. The keyword is "Milwaukee."
