Aha! They're done with reading The Stars And Stripes, and bored. So they play cards. Very well set up. Nice and natural transition between grass and sravel. And good paint job! Do I detect that they haven't cleaned their boots? Good work with the dirt! Man, wish I had the time to do such work. But, work, work, Arbeit! über Alles! Looking forward to your next post! 😂

The helmets and rifles look like Korean War to me only because I was only a toddler in WW-II. With the rifles turned over I can't see the bolt handle to see if they are M-1's or Springfields. When I was a boy I was subject to all sort of rules and disciplines such as Court-martial for gambling. The boy eventually was drafted and became a Military Policeman in Korea in the 1959-1961 era. Even for civilians penny ante poker could get you charged with a crime in California and our Waste Collector was actually prosecuted for this in Michigan just before Casinos became popular all over as Indian tribes were exempted. Those guys better be Navajo code talkers.

This is quite a story, very interesting to read about your past! You have the experience, that I haven't.The Korean war I know only from books and journals.I'me now working on an M40 with crew.I'll post it in the near future as a diorama.I think those guys are innocent cardplayers, killing some time between battles.I will thank you very much for your story and comment!Salute from Gerrit.

I just read the book The Ship That Held The Line, about USS Hornet and the life on board. The sailors had nothing to do than gambling. There were poker marathons round the clock and the gambler were relieved when they had to go to their shift and so the player rotated all the time without stopping the game. All gambled, enlisted men and officers.

This diorama reminded me on the parts in the book describing the gambling on board... ;-)
