Description

Tuesday, June 13, 2017 Here's a photo of some of the cars waiting for students to transport them to a nice restaurant or home to a nice dinner. The cars are decorated with blue and yellow balloons (Sweden's colors) and Swedish flags. Some 70 or more years ago, taking a student degree was a grueling feat. Very few passed. The student had to review everything he/she had studied. This took several weeks. Then came the dreadful part - being orally cross-examined by a group of 3 to 5 teachers whose job it was to try to disqualify the student from getting the degree. Students who succeeded in passing were let out the front door, where friends and relatives were waiting. Those who were disqualified were ushered out the back door, leaving friends and relatives in the dark until the poor ashamed student finally showed up. This manner of examining students came to be regarded as a waste of resources and sadistic. So the government put an end to it in the early 1960s (if I recall the time correctly). Instead, the students cumulative exam results were to determine if the student graduated or not. Also, today, a failed student can either make up for failed exams, or later, attend a KomVux school (Adult education at a community school) and then be able to apply to a university. ENJOY! These students are real happy! Now you know why!

Wow... that was some real graduations... over here, if it was like that... 90% of the students would never pass.... great scene, and info to go with it!

Cool photos, Michael! That sounds like a nightmarish way to graduate - good that they changed things in a positive way.
