Description

Saturday, June 10, 2017 Here we have the table with gauntlets and other things. The far right has several kinds of visors. The visors are here made to be interchangeable so one doesn’t need to buy a whole helmet for each visor. Interestingly, this was also done during the medieval period as well. Then we have the gauntlets. The upper pair have a payment machine on top of the one. But the other shows the complexity of a gauntlet where the fingers need to grasp a weapon. This pair costs more than the helmet, so I can guess what the fellows wife paid for them. So, who wants to pick a fist fight with this fellow? I doubt anyone in his right mind would! The gauntlets to the left are for other kinds of grasping, but less complex, as are the gauntlets below. The round black things are bucklers for the front of a shield, to protect the hand which is behind it. The axe is self explanatory except it’s not yet attached to a wooden handle. The chain mail is for helmets. It weighs quite a bit, but is not good protection against piercing weapons (arrows, spears). It also takes a lot of work to make it. To the left are two short and 2 long spear points. Spears were very important. They could be hurled at a foe, or held horizontally to form a spear wall against the foe, an age old classic formation. The large spear tips are not finished yet. A well made spear tip can penetrate armor and cause serious injury if it can be held steady enough. ENJOY? Ouch!

Your fine photo shows the craftsmanship that went into making armor back in the day.

Great shot of all these items - we still have armor, it's just the material has changed: Kevlar and carbon fiber instead of steel

Battles were a lot more personal back then.... And very brutal. They did a fantastic job on that armor! Great photos!
