Description

Another "kissing fish," captured back on 6/21/2011, at the Coral Lagoon section of the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific, in beautiful Long Beach, California. Clown triggerfish (Balistoides conspicillum), also known as the bigspotted triggerfish, are demersal marine fish belonging to the family Balistidae, or commonly called triggerfish. The clown triggerfish is widely distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian Ocean until the western Pacific Ocean. They can also be found in the Caribbean. They are most commonly found along external reef slopes with clear water until 75 m depth. Juveniles are usually staying below 20 m sheltered close to caves or overhangs. Ditto above, I knew nothing about this fish before your post. More luminous, magical and jewel-like marine captures. The fish's yellows and bright whites really pop out at us, esp in contrast with its deep blacks and blues. The background is like a dream. And the contrasts of fish (there are 2 in the bottom shot, that I can see) with their backgrounds is striking. I've never shot in aquariums, I don't know how I'd maneuver: The distorted light, the saturated hues, the constant movement---all of it would leave me flummoxed. I imagine postwork is a challenge too, because there's so much hue and light to deal with. You made these magical and dream-like. Beautiful work.

I'm only here for a few comments, today (and I'll try to leave a comment in some other galleries too); so I can't do a marathon session right now. But I noticed the technical illustrations immediately, and I'm really happy you're posting them. When I next write to Helle (which will be soon), I'll tell her not to miss them! I'll be back for more soon. Glad to see you're pouring into your art even as you struggle with other matters. Terrific work, Harry.
