Description

flies through the air with the greatest of ease in the massive lobby of the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California. This whale, which was constructed full scale, was recorded back on 5/26/2011 during my first visit. The blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) is a marine mammal belonging to the baleen whales (Mysticeti). At up to 29.9 meters (98 ft) in length and with a maximum recorded weight of 173 tonnes (191 short tons) and probably reaching over 181 tonnes (200 short tons), it is the largest animal known to have ever existed. What a beauty, but it looks a bit grumpy. Guess it is mighty thirsty :-D

For an animal that large, it sure has a small " beady eye "

I remember seeing one of these at the Smithsonian when I was 13; it was quite a site.
