Description
This flying insect is about 40 mm long and resembles a miniature damsel fly but I rather think it's a wasp !!
Taken yesterday in my garden. The flower is Astrantia.
Will try to catch up with commenting.

Gasteruption jaculator . It is a parasitic wasp which lays it's eggs in the nests of solitary bees. Well done for getting a decent pic, they are so busy!

Thank you Andrea - I thought you would know !!

Hey Jeff and while we are on the subject, the size of an average ruler is ca. 30 cm long, so this wasp [?] must be ginormous, and adding another 10 cm in length - I am freaking out, this could be scary !!! - [I'm sure you meant '4 cm or 40 mm' ?] LOL this is a very 'great' catch indeed... ;))

Thank you Brigitte - yet another old age related moment !! I will alter it !

Yes, it is about 40mm long alright. Saw one the other day, but it was gone before I knew it :) Well done capturing it so beautifully. :)

Hopefully that long needle is just for laying eggs, and not a stinger!
